Cinema Chop Shop

Cinema Chop Shop goes inside the ring as Travis and Brew Boss Shawn are joined by a tag team of wrestling fans Lee and Tex for a look at a couple of wrestling films. First up is No Holds Barred (1989) an entertainingly bad film starring Hulk Hogan at the height of his powers. Then it's Body Slam (1987), where wrestling crosses over with rock music, a premise that lends itself to a modern reinvention. Lee and Tex bring a lot of wrestling lingo, knowledge and lore to the show this week, leading to this extra-long episode. Enjoy! 

Not only is it St, Patrick's Day but it's Brew Boss Shawn's birthday too this week as CInema Chop Shop, as Travis and Hilary come along for an afternoon celebrating the "fillums" of Ireland. First up is High Spirits (1988) a comedy about ghosts that's not very good, but has some potential in the performances of Peter O'Toole and a young Liam Neeson. After checking in a few beers, John Wayne trades in the American west for the hills of Ireland in The Quiet Man (1952).

It's Roger Corman week with Travis, Brew Boss Shawn, Hilary and Joey Poole in the brand new Cinema Chop Shop studio.  Travis and Joey talk about the long, influential career and legacy of Roger Corman before diving in to the first film The Wasp Woman (1959), a monster movie where a cosmetic executive's new secret ingredient transforms her into... a wasp woman. Then it's A Bucket of Blood (1959) a dark comedy satire of the beatnik movement.  Corman's early campy horror films have great potential to be remade into interesting and unique films

It's time for the first ever Cinema Chop Shop Choppy Awards, celebrating achievements and under-achievements in recycled cinema of 2017!  Join Andrew, Shawn and Mark as they hand out the least coveted award in cinema for the categories of Most "Interesting" Choice, Most Improved Performance, Most Unnecessary Picture, and Best Unoriginal Picture.

This week Travis, Shawn and Nathan celebrate Drew Barrymore's birthday as her extensive filmography is in for the Cinema Chop Shop treatment. First up is Home Fries (1998), a film that even helicopters can make good, featuring Drew Barrymore in a fast-food restaurant, but without the titular food.  Then Drew Barrymore shows off her multi-hyphenate chops as producer, director and supporting actress in the roller derby film Whip It (2009) with Ellen Page and Kristen Wiig. Nathan brings some absurd outside-the-box picks, and his deadpan delivery had us all in stitches. Enjoy! 

Travis, Gouge and Hilary celebrate Ice-T's 60th birthday by giving a couple of his early movies the Cinema Chop Shop treatment. First up is New Jack City (1991) where Ice-T goes undercover to infiltrate Wesley Snipes' criminal empire at the height of the crack epidemic in New York. Then it's a worse, but no less entertaining film Suriving the Game (1994), Ice-T's first leaing role in a feature film, where he shows a team of sociopathic hunters that man is the most dangerous game. Then we share the submissions for this week's Chop Shopper Challenge film The Heist (2001).

Love is in the air at Cinema Chop Shop as newlyweds Chris and Rebecca join Travis, Shawn and Hilary for a Valentine's Day episode! The first film up is When Harry Met Sally (1989), a quintessential romantic comedy starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. After the break, it's a flop of a rom-com with a local connection, Forces of Nature (1989) starring Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock, featuring scenes filmed at the infamous I-95 tourist trap South of the Border. Finally we read the results from this week's Chop Shopper Challenge

It's Rock & Roll Movies week at Cinema Chop Shop with Travis, Hilary, Brew Boss Shawn and Joey Poole. That's right, we got the band back together! The first film is The Buddy Holly Story (1978) starring Gary Busey, a biopic that tells the story of Buddy Holly and the events leading up to the Day the Music Died. Then we pitch the unnecessary remake of the unnecessary Beatles rock opera Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978) starring not the Beatles. Everyone has a different opinion as to how to make that movie watchable. Finally, we look at the submissions for the latest Chop Shopper Challenge.
